KUCHING – The Rotary Club of Kuching Central will install the club’s 18th President and board of directors on 11th July 2003 at a leading hotel in Kuching and at the same time to launch its website,
www.kuchingcentralrotary.org. |

The ceremony is to be graced by YB. Datuk Wong Soon Koh, Minister of
Infrastructure Development & Communications, Sarawak.
Rtn. Sylvester Fong, the Incoming 18th President of the club, will take over from outgoing President Kho Ping whose term officially expires on 30 June 2003. The club President’s terms of office is one calendar year and election of the incoming office bearers and incoming president are usually conducted 6 months prior to the commencement of their terms of office.
Incoming President Sylvester Fong has been a member of the club since 1996 and held various posts in the board as Secretary, Hons. Treasurer and International Service Director. Being an active Rotary member, he has taken up the challenge to dedicate some of his personal time towards the noble cause of providing community and humanitarian services for the less fortunate members of the society and for helping to make this community a better place to live.
Backed by his able board members, Incoming President Sylvester Fong has outlined a number of important community related activities which will be undertaken by the Rotary Club of Kuching Central in the new Rotary year 1 July 2003 until 30 June 2004.
Incoming President Sylvester Fong is the Managing Director of OMG Fidelity (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, a wholly owned subsidiary of OM Group Inc. with its headquarter in Cleveland, USA, and is a leading manufacturer and supplier of high purity, specialty electroless nickel formulations for engineered metal-based applications in the electronics
and metal finishing industries. Sylvester is married to Agnes with 2 teenage children, Joshua and Joanne. |

The Rotary Club of Kuching Central was established in December 1986 and is part of Rotary International District 3310
(www.d3310.rotary.com.my) which is headed by District Governor David Tong who comes from the Rotary Club of Singapore East.
Amongst the major projects that were undertaken and completed by the club recently was the ‘PROJECT CARE’ which was officially launched on 1 July 2002 by YB. Dato’ Sri Dr. James Jemut Masing, Minister of Social Development & Urbanisation. The project partners are MAXIS and Profit Summary Sdn Bhd. Through this project, funds were raised at a total of over RM200,000 for the Sarawak Children Cancer Society. The funds are used to refurbish a transit house to enable those outstation parents to attend to their children who are undergoing cancer treatment at the Sarawak General Hospital. This project represents the ongoing commitment of the Rotary Club of Kuching Central to provide further assistance to the families concerned.
Another notable project was the donation of a portable dental treatment equipment and dentist chair to the community in Bario. The project was
carried out together with the Rotary Club of Oerskog of Norway belonging to Rotary International District 6240.
For the past 9 consecutive years, the club has bagged the Rotary International Presidential Citation Awards for its fine achievements and fine performances as well as having received several Rotary International District 3310 recognitions. Rotary International District 3310 consists of 63 Rotary clubs with 1960 members located in Sabah, Sarawak, Brunei, Labuan, Melaka, Johor and Singapore. |
