MESSAGE FROM THE ROTARY INTERNATIONAL PRESIDENT 2005-2006,
CARL-WILHELM STENHAMMAR

Dear Fellow Rotarians,

As you prepare for the work to be done during 2005-06, I ask that you reflect on the challenge of our motto, Service Above Self.  Service organizations like Rotary International play a vital role in today’s society and will play an even more important role in the future.  Two words will be key words – cooperation and continuity.

Rotary has set a standard on how cooperation and continuity can work among society, the private sector, other foundations and service organizations through its PolioPlus programme “to interrupt the transmission of the wild polio virus”.  For more than 20 years, Rotary International has cooperated with United Nations, through WHO and UNICEF in this programme and we are now looking forward to a giant success story.

Cooperation, however, does not have to be on global basis, it must also be on the local level.  Districts, or clubs, are likely to reach further in cooperation than each party could possibly do working individually.

All the fields in which Rotary is working are huge – health, hunger, literacy and water, just to mention a few.  None of these issues can be solved over a short period of time.  If that had been possible, the problems would already have been solved.  This is why continuity is so important.

To work for better world for all people is like putting together a giant puzzle.  Every participant will have to help in placing the pieces.  Through Service Above Self, Rotary International must work to make its pieces as large as possible, and in doing so we continue to show the world the great leadership of our organization.

Kind regards,
Carl-Wilhelm Stenhammar

MESSAGE FROM THE DISTRICT GOVERNOR 2005-2006, TAY KIM ANN

Dear Rotarians

My heartiest congratulations to the outgoing Presidents and their BODs on the successful completion of celebrating Rotary’s 100th anniversary when the final chapter of the history book of Rotary’s first 100 years come to a close in June 2005.

As we begin Rotary’s second century of service, you and I shall start writing the first chapter of the new history book of Rotary’s second 100 years. We are the leaders who shall set the goals for the future of Rotary. Our thinking and work will have a decisive impact on the future of this organisation. The new Rotary century is an historical moment and we are set to lead it.

The work of a Rotary club is in the hands of its members, and it is through hands-on service and active participation by each Rotarian in that club that our work is meaningful and successful. This year’s Presidential citation reinforces this message by focusing on participation, planning and quality service.

By participating in this Presidential Citation program your club acknowledges the importance of building on the best of the past while setting a successful course for Rotary’s second century of service. I look forward to recognising your club with the 2005-06 Presidential Citation in recognition of every Rotarian’s commitment to and embodiment of the ideal of SERVICE Above Self.

Yours in Rotary,
Tay Kim Ann

MESSAGE FROM THE PAST DISTRICT GOVERNOR 2004-2005, DR. IVOR THEVATHASAN, JP

Dear Friends of Rotary and Rotarians

The Centennial Year is fast coming to a close. It has been a Good Year with many projects taking place and many completed. The Four Avenues of Service have been complied with and many of the communities are well looked during this Year.

While we have accomplished much, let us not forget that Rotary and Rotarians are always forward thinking people and must plan for the future. Much can and must be done. Rotary International (RI) President Glenn Estess and Incoming RI President Carl-Wilhelm Stenhammar have faith in all of us to do the possible and the impossible.

The Rotary Club of Kuching Central has always led the way in Sarawak and indeed in all of Borneo. You have an exemplary record of "Service Above Self" so all you need to do is to carry on in the same spirit and excel yourselves. I have great confidence in your abilities and shall look forward eagerly to your new goals in the coming Year.

Congratulations to Centennial President Aw Tai Hui and his Team, and best wishes to Incoming President Augustine Wong and his new Team for the ensuing Year.

Yours in Rotary,
Dr. Ivor Thevathasan JP
