SERVICE PROJECTS AND ACTIVITIES

Vocational
Service is stressed in Rotary's object in these words, 'to encourage
and foster high ethical standards in business and professions, the
recognition of worthiness of useful occupations; and the dignifying
of each Rotarian's occupation as an opportunity to serve society.'
Vocational
Service is both the responsibility of a Rotary Club and of its
members. The role of the club is to implement and encourage the
objective by frequent demonstration, by application to its own
actions, by example, and by development of projects that help
members contribute their vocational talents. The role of members is
to conduct themselves, their businesses, and their profession in
accordance with Rotary principles and to respond to projects which
the club has developed.

|
|
|
To meet the above-mentioned Rotary object and
responsibilities, the Rotary Club of Kuching Central has
planned and undertaken a comprehensive program of activities
for the current Rotary Year, some of which are as follows:
| 1. |
Recognise
vocational excellence in our community
In conjunction with Rotary Vocational Service month, our
Club organised a ceremony to present Rotary Vocational
Service awards to two Healthcare professionals in
Sarawak, Malaysia. The two deserving candidates (one
doctor and one nurse) showed great care, professionalism
and dedication in their vocation during the outbreak of
Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) in early 2003
in this part of the world. The two candidates
contributed significantly to the prevention of the
spread of SARS epidemic in Sarawak, Malaysia. The
elaborate award ceremony was very well attended by a
majority of our members, family members and supporters
as well as members of the news media. The award ceremony
was witnessed and dignified by the presence of District
Governor David Tong, District First Lady Irene and
Director of Medical Services in Sarawak, Malaysia.

| 2. |
Promotion
of Vocational Awareness
As
part of our Club’s program to promote vocational
awareness and the recognition of the worthiness of all
useful occupations, our Club sponsored a project by the
Interact Club of Kuching High Secondary School to visit
the Batu Kitang Water Treatment Plant held on 13
November 2003.
|
| 3. |
Career
counselling and Development Project for Young People
Our
Club undertook a career counselling and development
project for young people with emphasis on the importance
of formal education in meeting career goals. The talk

Rotaract Club of Swinburne University of Technology held
on 20 January 2004.
|
| 4. |
