Service To New Generations

In terms of Vocational Service, Rotary employs "service" in its broad sense, referring not merely to the merchandise sold or work done in any business or professional transaction, but the giving of due consideration to the needs of others. Vocational Service is the way Rotary fosters and supports the application of the ideal of service in the pursuit of all vocations.

It is the responsibility of the club and its members to develop projects that help members contribute their vocational talents and to encourage high ethical standards in business and professions.

To meet Rotary's objectives and recognizing each Rotarian's occupation as an opportunity to serve, the Rotary Club of Kuching Central has undertaken the following Vocational activities in the last Rotary Year:
1. Presentation of Vocational Awards

In recognizing their excellence in their vocation, our Club presented vocational awards to two outstanding members of the "Jabatan Bomba dan Penyelamat Sarawak" Encik Abang Azemi and Encik Mujah Muari. Our club also recognize an outstanding member of the Royal Malaysian Police, CIU Head, ASP Wong Chee Kiong.

The awards was presented in a well attended dinner ceremony of our club in the presence of our visitng District Governor Dr. IVor Thevathasan and District First Lady Maureen.

2. Leadership Training for Rotaractors and Interactors

It is our club's yearly tradition to conduct a leadership training for the Rotaractors of Swinburne University of Technology, Interact Clubs of SMK Bandar Kuching No. 1 and SMK Kuching High. This is to train and guide them in the running of their clubs and to impart Rotary values and ideals to them.

3. Promotion of Vocational and Health Awareness

Our club encourages our members to live a healthy lifestyle and during the year, organized a number of prominent individual to give talks on their respective vocation.

In November 2004, we had the honour to have Prof. Dr. Sim Kui Hian, (the head of the Department of Cardiology & Clinical Research Centre Sarawak General Hospital) to give us a presentation and talk on Heart Diseases and the excellent work done at Dept of Cardiology & Clinical Research Centre.

The talk was well attended by Rotarians, family and invited guests, the talk gave most informative, relevant and impressed all attendees on the availability and capability of such advance cardiac medical care and facilities in Kuching.

On a lighter note, a very interesting talk on yoga, health and our well being was conducted by our very own "yoga master", Past President Polycarp Teo which was also attended by our members and spouses.
