Service To New Generations

The objectives of Rotary Service to New Generation are to undertake projects and activities that support the development of leadership qualities, communication skills, elements of community and global citizenship.

The following are some of the activities undertaken during the year to assist in the development of our youth:

1. Talk on "Crime Prevention Awareness"

On 29th January 2005, a talk on "Crime Prevention Awareness" Was organized. It was well attended by 1,000 secondary school students (teenagers), 40 from each of the 25 schools, members of the Royal Malaysian Police, Rotarians, invited guests and family. The Guest of Honour was our State Minister of Housing, Dato Sri Abang Johari, also present were the Commissioner of Police, Datuk Talip Jamal and Deputy Commissioner of Police Abang Wahap Julai.

The objectives of the project were to address a very important community need as highlighter by Rotary International as Urban Concern, so as to reduce crime, violence prevention through crime prevention awareness.

The participation and enthusiasm of the 1,000 students will definitely contribute towards crime reduction and instill and reinforce into the young teenage mind a greater sense of civil mindedness and moral responsibility. It may also attract them to venture into this vocation in future.

2. Support and sponsorship to Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) Program

During the year, our club sponsored a total of 7 youth, 4 secondary school students and 3 university students to attend the RYLA program in Kinarut, Sabah.

RYLA is a yearly program organized by Rotary Club or Clubs in the district and all Rotary Clubs in the district are expected to sponsor students / youth to the program.

3. Guidance and Support to Interact and Rotaract Clubs

Our club sponsors and supervise two Interact Clubs and one Rotaract Club in Kuching, namely Interact Club of SMK Kuching Town No. 1, SMK Kuching High and the Rotaract Club of Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak.
