The Board of Directors' Meeting of the "Rotary Club of Kuching" at the residence of President John Chin (85/86) saw it fitting to propose and discuss the formation of a new Rotary Club in Kuching in conjunction with its Golden Jubilee (50 years) celebration in 1986. Meeting agreed that this task be undertaken by PP Lt Col Devan Pillai and PP Dr. Ong Shak Foo.

1st Interest Meeting for the formation of a "New" Rotary Club in Kuching held on Friday, 5:30PM at the Mulu Room, Holiday Inn Kuching organised by President John Chin (85/86), PP Lt Col Devan Pillai and Secretary Jseph Lim and attended by upcoming citizens from various walks of life in the State Capital.

2nd Interest Meeting held at the Holiday Inn Kuching too and elected the PRO-TEM COMMITTEE of the PROVISIONAL CLUB.

3rd Interest Meeting elected Mr. Chua Teck Kheng, Senior Agriculture Economist attached to the Agriculture Dept Sarawak - as the President of the new Club.

Members voted for the weekly fellowship to be held on every Thursday 5:30pm.

The proposed name chosen was the "Rotary Club of Bandar Kuching".

1st Board of Directors' Meeting of the new club was held at the Army Officers' Mess at Reservoir Road, Kuching, attended by Club Advisors: IPP John Chin (85/86), PP Lt Col Devan Pillai and PP Dr. Ong Shak Foo.

Meeting was informed that the Sponsoring Club - "Rotary Club of Kuching" was generally not in favour of the proposed name as it may lead to membership confusion and it was agreed that the choice of a new name be left to the members' during the next weekly Meeting.

1st Weekly Meeting to be held on Thursday at 5:30pm.

1st Overseas Visitor: RTN Reg Stokes and Ann from the "Rotary Club of Bairnsdale" Victoria Australia who also presented their club Banner to the Club.

After many a speech in support of this or that name, the majority voted in favour of the "ROTARY CLUB OF KUCHING CENTRAL", (PROVISIONAL)

PP Lt Col Devan Pillai spoke on Membership classification.

Speaker: Mr. John Ho (Senior Agriculture Office) spoke on 'Orchid Cultivation'.

Sergeant-at-Arms, RTN Ang Khim Hwa was the 1st member to introduce himself and spoke on his classification - Mathematics Education.

Speaker: Mr. Yew Kam Kiong spoke on the 'Role of SIRIM'.

Club Banner Design incorporating the historic Borneo High Court House in Kuching by virtue of its 'Central' location and symbolising the first 2 tenets of the FOURWAY TEST of ROTARY: the Pursuit of TRUTH and FAIRNESS to be undertaken by RTN Odita Ibrahim.

Speaker: Mr. Ying Ten Ping spoke on the 'Role of the Registrar of Societies' and 'Societies Act, 1966'.

Attended 'Rotaract Club of Kuching' 4th Installation of their incoming President Kho Ping (86/87) and his Board of Directors at the Fima Rantei.

2nd Board of Directors' Meeting held at the office of the Secretary RTN Michael Hii.

Attended the 1st Interact Function at St. Joseph's School Auditorium.

Participated in the Blind Centre Open House.

Competed in the Rotaract Badminton Invitation at Bintawa Sports Hall.

Speaker: Mr. Francis Rigos (Ag Deputy director of Labour Dept) talked on 'Immigrant Labour and the Labour Ordinance'.

1st Joint Ladies Night with the 'Rotary Club of Kuching' at the Fima Rantei.

Speaker: Puan Halimah Mohd Amin spoke on the 'Employment Situation in Sarawak'.

Application for Membership in ROTARY INTERNATIONAL submitted by our Sponsor, 'Rotary Club of Kuching'.

Speaker: Thomas Cowan talked on 'Pest Control'.

3rd Board of Directors' Meeting held at the Residence of Vice-President Chieng Lee Ching.

VP Chieng Lee Ching was elected as the Chairman of the Fund Raising Committee.

DG Mustapha Ma (86/87) on his official tour of the 63 Rotary Clubs in District 330 covering Malaysia, Brunei and Singapore arrived at 11:45am at Kuching International Airport from Sibu.

Board of Directors' Lunch Meeting with DG at 12:30pm at the Sherwood Grill.

Meeting with our President, Vice-President and DG's Representative Dr. Kang Tee Yong.

1st Club Assembly attended by DG.

Combine Dinner with the 'Rotary Club of Kuching' honouring DG at the Pelagus Room, Holiday Inn Kuching. 

Address by President Chua Teck Kheng highlighting 'teething problems of the Club'.

DG presented with a Sarawak Shield by our Club to commemorate his visit.

DG departed for Kuala Lumpur at 11:15am.

RTN Chieng Lee Ching was elected as President-Elect.

RTN Jacob Sagan was elected as Vice-President.

Speaker: Mr. Saw Kok Pee (Deputy President of Nature Society of Sarawak) spoke on their Club Activities.
