During the last Pan-Borneo Meet, it
was endorsed that a Pan-Borneo
Rotary Community Project be launched
or implemented at the next
Pan-Borneo Meet to be held in 1992.
In line with this decision, the
Rotary Club of Kuching Central, as
the host and organising Club, has
invited and received a number of
project applications from various
concerned authorities. Taking into
consideration the anticipated budget
and the benefit of the project, the
Pan-Borneo Rotary Community Project
Sub-Committee concluded that the
submission from the Rajah Charles
Brooke Memorial Hospital deserves
the full support of the Pan-Borneo
Meet this year.
This
hospital was established more than
40 years ago to look after leprosy
patients in the State and it has
continued to do so this day.
Although the hospital is financed by
the Government, its annual budget is
quite limited and the hospital
always welcome assistance, financial
or otherwise, to improve the
services and facilities for its
leprosy patients. Reaching out to
assist the hospital and its patients
through this Pan-Borneo Rotary
Community Project is therefore very
appropriate and in tune with this
year's Rotary Theme to "LOOK
BEYOND YOURSELF".
This year's
Pan-Borneo Rotary Community Project
therefore is to assist the Rajah
Charles Brooke Memorial Hospital to
carry out some much needed
renovations. The project consists of
two components; the first involves
renovation to the multi-purpose hall
at a cost of about $9,000 (ringgit)
and the second component is to
charge the ceiling of the
kindergarten and to purchase chairs
and tables at a cost of about $4000
(ringgit); making a total project
cost of about $13,000 (ringgit). The
multi-purpose hall was built in 1954
and is used for the following
purposes:
|
(a) |
for
distributing weekly rations to
the patients; |
|
(b) |
for
the thrice weekly treatment of
patients; and |
|
(c) |
for
the relaxation of patients; a
place where they can meet,
watch television etc. |
This project will benefit about 40
leprosy patients and about 30
children of the patients (the number
of children is increasing).
The
Pan-Borneo Rotary Community Project
will be launched by the District
Governor on 22nd February 1992 at
11.30 a.m. at the Rajah Charles
Brooke Memorial Hospital, Mile 13
Penrissen Road, Kuching. The
launching will be witnessed by the
Presidents (or representatives) of
all the participating Rotary Clubs
in Sarawak, Sabah and Brunei.
On behalf
of Rotary Club of Kuching Central,
the Pan-Borneo Rotary Community
Project Sub-Committee would like to
take this opportunity to thank all
Rotary Clubs in this year's
Pan-Borneo Meet for participating
and donating to this worthwhile
project. THANK YOU.
